NAFA's entry course. Two modules every week: U.S. legal terminology, topic by topic, including the foundation of each of our courses, with NAFA's Blue Book; and intensive English with TOEFL iBT practice: reading, writing, listening and speaking. It continues the work of Dr. Pachecker.
How the U.S. legal system works: the common law, federalism, the sources of law, federal and state courts and the basics of civil procedure, with Florida as the model state.
The origin, structure and main provisions of the U.S. Constitution: from the founding documents to the seven articles, the amendment process, the twenty-seven amendments and the essential Supreme Court precedents.
Federal and Florida laws on credit reporting, credit repair and debt collection, and how to comply with them in practice: from the client's credit report to the dispute letter.
A practical foundation in the U.S. immigration system: the agencies, the main categories and procedures, the forms and evidence in a case file, and the line between preparing documents and giving legal advice.
An advanced study of federal immigration law: the family, employment, humanitarian and business pathways, removal and its defenses, citizenship, and case research with primary sources.
Patents, trademarks, copyright and related rights: what each one protects, how it is protected in the United States, the Andean Community and the European Union, and how disputes are resolved, with practical cases.
U.S. commercial, corporate and contract law for lawyers trained in the civil law: the UCC, business structures, the corporate veil, contracts, negotiable instruments, money laundering and bankruptcy. You pass the course with a final research paper.
A specialized course on human rights: their foundation and history, the treaties, the universal, Inter-American, European and African systems, defense strategies and current issues, including what each system can do with respect to the United States.
